Blood pressure and body mass index health kiosks
Enfield Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has invested in new health kiosks for patients aged 16 and over. The health kiosks are available at most GP practices in Enfield and are free for patients to use.
The health kiosk is automated and simple to use with full audio and visual instructions. It measures:
- your height and weight to calculate your body
mass index (BMI)
- your blood pressure
- your pulse
The health kiosk will print out a copy of your results which you can share with your GP who can explain the results next time you see them.
Why blood pressure matters
High blood pressure is common. Around 30% of adults in England have it but many don't know they do. It often presents no symptoms, but it's important because it raises the risk of serious health problems such as heart disease and stroke.
When your blood pressure is too high, your heart has to work harder to pump blood around your body. Over time, this can weaken your heart. High blood pressure also places a strain on the walls of your arteries, making a blockage more likely.
Why body mass index (BMI) matters
Body mass index (BMI) is a good way to check if you're a healthy weight. If you have a BMI above the healthy range you are at raised risk of the serious health problems linked to being overweight, such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease and certain cancers.
NHS Enfield CCG aims to commission, or buy, high quality services. Your views are important to us and will help us to continue to improve the healthcare we commission.
