As part of European Antibiotic Awareness Day, held annually on 18 November, Public Health England has launched the Antibiotic Guardian campaign that calls on everyone in the UK, the public and medical community, to choose one simple pledge about how you will make better use of antibiotics and help save this vital medicine from becoming obsolete.
Without effective antibiotics many routine treatments will become increasingly dangerous. Setting broken bones, basic operations, even chemotherapy all rely on access to antibiotics that work. To slow resistance we need to cut the use of unnecessary antibiotics.
