Patient and volunteer training opportunities
We regularly advertise patient and volunteer opportunities in our stakeholder newsletters.
We signpost to learning and development opportunities provided by national bodies including NHS England, via their Involvement Hub. We have had patients attend NHS Leadership Academy and successfully complete the Effective Lay Partner Programme which takes a coaching approach allowing Lay Partners to develop the necessary skills, attitudes and behaviours in a space where they have the opportunity to speak with healthcare professionals as equals.
We also commission training for patient groups, as required. We commissioned Enfield Voluntary Action to help our Patient Participation Groups develop their network and their individual groups, via a customised training session on setting vision, values and aims. This training had excellent feedback and individuals used this to revise their PPG's terms of reference and to develop a positive working relationship with practice staff.
We also include engagement training as part of staff induction to ensure that all staff are aware of why we need to be inclusive of patients and volunteers when planning new services.
